Mixed Fruit Leaves for Winter

I'm having great fun out and about foraging for rabbit food, armed with secateurs and a large carrier bag!!

I have invested in a dehydrator and I have been busy preparing leaves and flowers for my bunnies' winter store.

So far I have dried nettles, brambles, willow and rose leaves and strawberry, raspberry and black currant leaves.

Tomorrow I'm off up the downs to pick heather to dry with some of my lavender.

As a real treat I let Charlie and Bracken help themselves to a pansy plant and a trough of nasturtiums.

They thoroughly enjoyed themselves!!

Beware Bulls !! and Suspicious Sheep!!

Hi Kerry, yes I have various beasties to negotiate too! I find the best forage is always in the middle of a field! I gingerly tiptoed past a herd of cows to get to the best heather and dandelions!!! What we do for our bunnies!!!

Delicious!

Oh wow - How wonderful!

That's brilliant. You have been really busy!

Your bunnies are going to be the healthiest around this winter!

I've been chopping and drying nettles too, all weekend - not a nice job when they 'bite' back but very good for bunnies!

The brambles are a great idea too. I'll have to get out on the common and get cutting!

It's just a shame I have to negotiate all this foraging with a field full of bulls!

But tasty, good food comes at a price hey!

Thanks for sharing Jan, love the pictures :-)

Kerry x
