Bunnies Hide Pain - Watch for any unusual behaviour.

My lop rabbit is about 5-6 years old. I discovered a large abnormal lump under her skin on her lower back about 2 months ago and didn't think anything of it at first until it slowly grew to the size of a golf ball. It is covered in fur so I am not quite sure how long it was there before I noticed it. When I touch it she doesn't seem to be in pain and she hasn't been acting out of the ordinary.

I have a vet appointment scheduled for this week but I wanted to try to do some research before hand to get an idea of what it could be and then the associated costs with potential treatment options.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? At first I thought it may be an abscess but I haven't come across any cases where they were on her back. Anyone have any thoughts/insights?

Thank you!!

Could be abscess...
by: Kerry

Hi Carolyn

Oh my you must be worried. :-(

Rabbits can get an abscess on thir back, yes even though facial ones are common.

Some rabbits even get infections from a routine injection at the vets.

But it could be something else too.

Hopefully this page...

will give you some insights in to what may be the cause and what you can do, but I do recommend a rabbit savvy vet take a proper look for you just to be on the safe side.

Good luck and I hope your gorgeous bun is sorted out asap.
