Seeking Rabbit Advice from Another Vet
by Kris and Ed
2nd Opinion Please!
We adopted our bunny from a shelter about 2.5 months ago. However, since he has been home with us he has been sick.
Symptoms started as mild GI stasis/gas but when the vet ran further labs in late June, she uncovered a concerning problem and a slight abnormality.
The CBC showed an infection (high WBC count and high lymphocytes count) and borderline anemia.
An ultrasound showed some diffused changes to the liver but no masses. It also showed a distended a cecum.
Upon his follow up today, the GI issues seem to be a bit better but the WBC count and lymphocyte count is still high.
We were given a new antibiotic to try. This one is Doxycycline. The vet mentioned that maybe the previous antibiotics didn't target the infection or that there is a small possibility of lymphoma.
They did view a smear of blood under the microscope the cells were not currently abnormal (not showing clear signs of lymphoma) but are showing signs of an infection.
The vet is trying to work with us and our bunny exploring many possibilities but hasn't been able to give any solid answers.
We wanted to reach out and see if anyone had any other thoughts or ideas regarding the situation.
